sucks.
just a warning.
i'm running it on a new powerbook (1.33g, 768ram, 10.3.5).
you CANNOT punch in audio (without a momentary audio dropout).

i spent days trying to troubleshoot this.
called emagic (apple) support today:
logic express does not support "punch in on the fly".

this is a basic recording function!!!! a four-track cassette machine can do this!

i can, of course, upgrade to logic pro...for $700.

what a shame!

am more disappointed in this than any other software/hardware issue i've seen (and i've seen a good number)

I'm not sure I see the problem?

There's a short dropout of audio playback (a half-second or so). This is harmless, non-destructive, and does not affect recording. It is annoying, yes.

What I find FAR more problematic is that there is no way to record-enable additional tracks during recording (even in Logic Pro).

In other words: you're recording overdubs on two inputs, and somebody starts fiddling with an additional keyboard that is routed to two additional inputs. There is no way to just start recording on those two channels, as well - without stopping the sequencer, breaking the flow of things.

The audio drop-out is really not a problem.

if i'm recording a singer, and she wants to punchin (and replace) her second sentence...
audio dropping out is a SERIOUS problem!

I disagree.

We're not talking about 2" analog tape with destructive recording here.

There is absolutely no harm in dropping in three, five, or twenty seconds early. In fact, drop-ins tend to flow a lot better if you record some context before and after as well.
