Quick help needed- I have a need to play a stream (mp3 or .ogg) in a continuous manner- that is, rebuffering is OK but simply quitting isn't. What is happening is that the stream will play for a while (10 minutes or up to 3+ hours) and then usually pause to rebuffer. When that is done, it will play for a few more seconds and then just go silent. iTunes for example will still show the stream information but with an elapsed time of 0:00. I'm using a beige g3 but this will happen on all computers on my network, fed by a cable modem with Earthlink. It even happens with the cable modem fed directly into the beige g3. It happens when the iBook is on dial up and connected to the stream. I have tried lo and hi bandwidth streams and multiple players- VLC, Audion, Whamb!, iTunes and Quicktime. I have been told by the people streaming that their servers are not overloaded (it's the indymedia center in NYC with coverage of the RNC protests). This even happens with other streams such as the KEXP mp3 stream.
What's the trick to "locking on" streaming audio and to get the player to start up again if there is a rebuffering? I don't mind occasional dead air on my 4 watt pirate radio station (oops- cat's out of the bag) but I don't want hours and hours of dead air. This has to run itself- I don't have time to babysit it (I'd love to, but I have a real job to go to).
Thanks in advance-
Val
