Hi,
Earlier today I paid Apple to register my quicktime program as Pro. I did this so that I could copy&paste some video, and edit my home videos. However, the Quicktime Pro (version 6.5.1) seems to have the Edit menu disabled. I've tried "enable tracks" and other things, but nothing seems to activate the edit menu items.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
-Ben

Is it MPEG video you're trying to edit? Cause QT Pro won't edit any MPEG files (other than MPEG-4).

Assuming you are running OS X you could try the freeware Mpeg StreamClip, which will demultiplex and convert mpeg-1 (and mpeg-2 if you have the mpeg-2 component) to sound and video formats that will allow editing.

That's exactly what was going on. I'm so happy that I can now edit :-) Thanks!

so I'm now able to export MPG --> Quicktime. However, when I export I'm losing the audio for the file. When I go to the Export preferences, the "audio" item is grayed-out...disabled.
How can I export a MPG --> Quicktime, with the audio and video info ?
Thanks in advance for any info.

The MPEG StreamClip freeware should convert it to QT Movies in your choice of formats for editing, or to DV streams if you want to use iMovie. It requires OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and is a freeware. You should be able to download it from here:

For Mpeg-2 you do need the Apple mpeg-2 component ($20) but it should work without additional software for mpeg-1 files.
For mpeg-1 I would suggest Component Video as the format to convert to for editing.
I must confess that I have not used it (still just have 10.1.4 loaded on my eMac) but folks on several movie forums have recommended it.
