My wife is a professor of media at a small private college, where they're working on convergence of media forms. One of the things she'd like to do is stream live feeds - she has no idea how to do this or what's required, nor do I. Anyone here have thoughts to share as to what's involved with this?

Thanks

A combination of Quicktime Broadcaster and Quicktime Streaming Server (or Darwin Streaming Server if you don't have OSX Server installed).

The Broadcaster alone will stream to one machine. The Streaming Server then mirrors the stream so lots of people can connect.

Both are free.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Actually, I think broadcaster will indeed stream to more than one person. I don't know how robust it is, but we set up a live stream and embedded the qt file in an HTML page. I know that at least a few people were able to access the page at the same time and QTSS wasn't involved.
