Bit of a difficult decision as to where to place this thread, however........

I have an iBook 600mhz, 15 gig, which used to be almost able to import a 60 min miniDV tape for editting in iMovie.

Since I upgraded to Panther and started archiving my music the disc space is getting sparce.

Question, would a 20 or 40 gig iPod work well as an external harddrive for video editting?

The external firewire type hard drive would be a bulkier, probably larger and definately cheaper alternative......

..........although without all the nifty little features the iPod has.

Wow, just checked the online shop............

"LaCie 160 Gb FireWire harddisk" for around 150 $US.

Probably a better option, since I'm too paranoid to listen to personal music while mobile anyhow.

The HD in the iPod isn't built for the constant read/write acces required form video editing and will burn out. I believe someone at xlr8yourmac.com tried it not long after iPods were introduced and his pod died.

... and this tiny, wonderful piece of harddisk isn't FAST enough to offer a constant stream for video editing...

So the iPod was a bad idea, not that I'm too sad, as I was tossing up whether to invest the extra dosh for a 40 gig model, but there's now the other option of 160gig.

Um, the Lacie 7200rpm job with firewire would be fast enough to use with imovie wouldn't it??
