I've a couple of architect clients who are interested in time lapse sequences of land mark buildings they are working on.
Has anyone done this or have any ideas for a solution.
The projects would run for approx 2 years and whatever 'shooting' system we suggest might need to be battery run in a specially constructed housing .... with minimum attention ( and at minimum cost).
Is there a relatively cheap DV camera that will power up at a set time each day, record 1 min of video and then power down??
Or would it be better with a computer + USB still camera + specialist program??
I guess there could be other off-shoots of this in providing a 'web cam' type service as well... but my main interest is in creating a video sequence of these projects.
I have a full FCP edit suite to cope with whatever is generated.
TIA
Steve

In my job we have run across this scenerio many times. The best solution that we come up with is a single channel security DVR that will take 1 or 2 frames a day. It does require power be present. Usually we can set everything up in a construction trailer and then mount a exterior camera on a pole near by and run the little bit of wire that would be needed
secondary note that isn't that much video that would actually be recorded about 2 sec a day or only about 12 minutes a year

...."a single channel security DVR"
I guess that would be a VHS machine - if so then that would be too low in quality. If it's DV or DV Cam then can you be specific as to which make/model?
I have found a piece of software 'BTV Pro' which looks promising - but it would mean a camera + a computer which is getting a bit expensive and again needs mains power.
BTV pro

DVR = Digital Video Recorder DVR doesnot = VHS
Of Course I am also not saying that it would be the worlds best quality video either as it is usually a motion JPEG or MPG4 codec being used
