xvid-dvl to dvd? help!

Hey everyone, I have a movie on my computer that I would like to burn on a cd or dvd. The file type is xvid-dvl and I have no idea what that is. Does anyone know what I would need to do before I tried to burn it on a cd or dvd so it would play in a dvd player? thanx in advance for any help
