I have a Series 2 TiVo, and would like to archive my shows off it onto my Mac, to burn to SuperVCD (SVCD). I've browsed and searched various forums, and as I understand it, the Series 2 players need to be decrypted in order to successfully extract the video.

There doesn't seem to be one easy "here's how to do it, step by step" guide, so I'm asking for some guidance. I consider myself to be very tech savvy, but I'm also very new to TiVo and don't even know where to start.

Hardware-wise, I've got my Cube and TiVo connected via 802.11b. As for software, what do I need to h*ck/communicate with/extract/convert?

If you're ok with hacking your Tivo, I'd check the forums at www.tivocommunity.com first. The "TiVo Underground" forum there should have your answer.

Also, if you can wait a little bit longer and want to avoid hacking anything, TiVo will be releasing their TivoToGo service later this fall, which will allow you to more easily get shows off your Series 2 Tivo and on to your machine where you can watch them or burn them onto a CD or DVD.

The tivo and the tivocommunity censors all video extraction talk on those forums. You need http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/ where everything but the truly illegal theft-of-service is permitted to be discussed.

Wow, I hadn't heard about this...this is great news! Let's just hope it's as simple as transferring a show to the Mac, dropping onto Toast and burning a SVCD (no DVD burner here).
