I currently own a Sony Digital8 camera and I am learning to transfer movies to my Mac for editing and DVD creation. However, our camera is getting older and the new models are smaller and look great. Is there a particular brand that is more Mac friendly than another? If not, that is fine, too. I just wanted to know before I made the wrong purchase.

My Sony seems to work fine, with just a Firewire cable to the Mac and then it is finished. However, the transfer is slow. Basically it just plays into the computer and the computer records. Is that how they all are? It would be nice if they swapped the film more like a disk transfer. i.e. faster. Thank you in advance to any replies. Also, if I am posting in the wrong place I apologize.
Yes. Again? Yes.

there is no "best" - every user has different standards…

Sony is good choice - works like charm, very good battery management, very good optics (Zeiss), easy to handle. Some people (with big hands) say, they are not good to handle - try in a shop.-
all/most/many mini-dv camcorder with firewire/iLink are compatible with iM. don't try exotic brands…
I wouldn't spend money on special effects - I do every thing with the editing prg (FCE)
An extra battery pack and a tripod should be on th elist ;-)

btw:
don't get irritated with mio pixels etc. - this is just for stills! a video pic has a definate number of pixels; only for usage with 16:9 a "few more" makes sense …

transfer to the mac is allways in "real time", sorry to say that. there are some pro equipments on the market, which record directly onto a moveable firewire harddisk - VERY xpensive ;-)
