Don't know if this was covered, it was just news on MacNN... This looks hot, and probably the best thing to come along in ages. It's by Edirol, although a little steep maybe, It seems a much better solution all-around than any of those "don't work on a Mac" minidisc players!!

And, to heck with soundforge!

Well, what's the deal here, no one interested? I think this is a terrifc new product, and think of it, recording in the field, recording, yes, AND, it actually will work on a Mac!!

It's large, it's ugly, and it's compact-Flash-card-based.

Oh, and the link you forgot to include:

http://www.edirol.com/products/info/r1.html

It comes with a 64 MB flash card, which translates to about FOUR MINUTES of stereo recording at 24 bits / 44.1 kHz.

Woo-hoo.

(though, to be fair, 1 GB cards - which store about one hour at 24/44.1 - are <$100. Woo-hoo. You'd need $200 worth of cards just to get a soundboard recording of an average concert. Woo-hoo.)

Jeez, I did forget the link!! Thanks, Spheric.

So, what's better? Can't record with an iPod, minidisc doesn't work on a Mac...

Minidisc doesn't work on a PC either - that is, you can't actually transfer anything FROM the MD TO the computer.

Archos can record, can't they?

Tell the truth, I currently lug around my Powerbook if I need to record - until an iPod with recording capability comes out to replace my aging 5GB model.
