I'm doing post-prod. for a radio show, the segments for the show are sent to me as 128 mp3's. I'm looking for a simple enough app that will "stitch" the segments together AND convert the new file into different bitrates.

Right now i have to use a piece of shareware called "MP3 Trimmer" to combine the files, then bring it into itunes, and use the "convert to mp3" to change the bitrate. This is a pain because I need several different bitrates to send out to different media outlets.

Any suggestions?

Would Audacity do it?

It'll import MP3's, let you cut and paste bits together and allow you to export at different bitrates (although you have to alter the setting in preferences each time before export).

ffmpeg should be able to do this. The command would look something like:
ffmpeg -i 1.mp3 -i 2.mp3 -b 64 output.mp3
I'll try this when I get home. You'll probably also need a command line mp3 encoder installed. I'll let you know later.

The greatest benefit is that you can script everything. So with one command, you could grab all the mp3 files in a directory, join them, and re-encode them to a lower bitrate.
