How would I go about getting XLR audio into my Mac and what are the best microphones for voice? Single source recording is all I really need and I'm hoping not to spend too much. What are the best solutions?

If you're on a budget: I hear good things about M-Audio.
They have small, two-channel USB interfaces.
The problem is that you always get what you pay for. (Just for perspective: General rule-of-thumb is that for "pro" audio mic pre-amps, you can figure about $1000 per channel.)
So you will see some limitations: the mic pre-amps will be slightly noisy, or maybe not as linear.
If you are willing to splurge a little more: Metric Halo ULN-2 2-channel mic preamp with 24-bit/96-kHz A/D converters - this thing is among the best on the market, both in regard to the pre-amps, as well as the converters.
Try a search on microphones for speech - they've been discussed on the 'NN before, and they're not my forte.
HTH,
-chris.

Just received this from a very "pro" audio mailing list:
There was a question about mic`s for recording spoken word. Then i would recomend the Sennheiser MKH 416.
http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...ones_mkh_01511
Industry standar. Rumors says Hollywood engineers demanded Shennheiser to continue the production of this mic when they tried to get engineers to go for the MKH 60 instead.
Give it a try, and you probably understand why. Silk smooth top end, without harshness. Dialouge that cuts throug, and still got a warm body. (Yes, i am talking about a mic;-)
I also have a416 and use it a lot!
It is a hyper-cardioid and is especially good for capturing dialogue
outdoors, at some distance, or for live sounding room's, - any where
you need some "suck" .
It's design means that it's too directional for some situations, check
the off axis hairline interference if you see it's polar pattern -
when it's off mic, it's really off mic!
It's too coloured for recording music, but for the right job it's fine
and deserves it's reputation.
Might be out of league, out of budget, and pure overkill, but I thought I'd post it.
