Sorry if this is the wrong forum...

so I've been shopping for a new HDTV, and I'm constantly reading about the awesomeness of DLP, but every DLP display I've ever seen has looked...well..."speckely" for lack of a better word. As if someone as WAY over sharpened the image. And I feel like I've looked at some of the best looking models (rear projection anway...haven't really seen a front projection). Is this something that just doesn't bother everyone else or what? Why is everyone so pro-DLP when to my eyes it looks like poo.

Just curious what you guys think.

Often the display models at major retailers have the sharpness turned way up to look "better." Have you tried playing with the calibration?

also (as with any fixed-pixel technology), any analog/non-HD source will not look particularly good on a DLP, and store demo feeds are rarely HD. If you look at an HD feed (especially a 720p feed) on a well-calibrated DLP, i'm sure you'd be much more satisfied with the quality.

more info on dlp and all things audio/visual that you can shake a big stick at. Try to find a decent store to view the model you're thinking of buying, it's probably just badly setup. It amazes me when you see these stores demoing projectors in a brightly lit area, on a 3 foot screen. No wonder they don't sell. I demo my projector to friends and they all ask where to buy them. It's that good.
