I am looking into getting a digital camera but am stumped by the different memory sticks, flash cards, secure multi media, xd cards etc. that there are for different cameras. Is one better than another? also I am seeing card readers- which seems like a good idea - what does 8 in 1 or 6 in 1 mean? So far all I have seen are ones that say USB connection, nothing about firewire. Could anyone shed a little light on this subject for me? I have posted in a few forums but haven' t gotten any response as of yet. Thanks a bunch.

Check the price of a large (256 or 512 mb) version of whatever type is attached to a camera as most cameras come with a tiny memory device which will hold only 8 pictures. The 8 in one etc means that the gadget will read eight types of memory devices. Most cameras come with a USB cable to connect to your computer and do not require a reader. sam

yoru most common memory for cameras is Compact Flash. I would say look for cameras with compact flash as a point and shoot becase all Digital SLR cameras use Compact Flash as the recording media. So if you decide to upgrade to the Digitla SLR you will use the same media. (granted in my case I would probally buy 5 or 6 more compact flash cards anyway if I was to do That)
Quicksilver 867, 700mhz iBook, 1st Gen iPod, iSight, Newton 2100, and a 128k Mac. All operating and used on a constant Basis

Thanks for the information, i'm leaning towards a Canon Powershot A85 which uses compact flash. That's about as upgraded as I will get for a long while!
