My family purchased a Sony DCR-TRV70 digital video camera specifically for use with Apple programs. We are going to get an iMac G5 and were planning to use Final Cut Express for editing. Just found out that on Apple's compatibility page, our camera isn't listed. The included Sony Image Mixer software doesn't work on OS X. Does anyone know if the camera will work with Apple programs via Firewire? If not, what can I do? Thanks!

You don't have to worry, the camera will work. It does work flawlessly with FinalCut Pro and I also captured in iMovie with this camera. It's just the Image Mixer software that won't work. But If you have FinalCut Express, you won't miss it.

By the way, I never heard of a camera that would not work with FinalCut, even if the box said it shouldn't.

Do you mean the camera will work with this program? Do you recommend FinalCut Express over iMovie?
Thanks for the reply.

If you've never used a video editing software before, I'd start with iMovie and then purchase Final Cut Express if you find you need its capabilities (multiple video tracks, etc).

Apple.com has a deal where FinalCut Express can be preinstalled with a new computer for only one hundred dollars. I believe this is a couple hundred off the regular price. Would it be smarter to get it with our new computer now, or stick to iMovie until I know we want the additional features of FinalCut Express?
