I've been trying to rip a few of my DVDs with their subtitles intact to a video file, but I've been having no luck so far. Anyone one know of an app that can rip the subtitles along with the video (this is for my own personal use, nothing illegal)?

Do you want the subtitles included as part of the video (sacrificing video quality for ease) or as text that is overlayed by the player? If the first, try OpenShiiva. If the second, use anything that encodes to a Quicktime container (I recommend Diva), then use TitleLab for the subtitles. The 3ivx site has a forum that will answer all the questions you will have about getting subtitles into a Quicktime file.

There is currently no way to get "soft subs" from a DVD on a Mac, so you'll have to search the web to find the appropriate one. If you're going to use TitleLab you'll need QT Pro to add the subtitle file to the video (or the ancient, but useful, Classic application Movieplayer 2.5).

OpenShiiva seems to be just what I need. I can sacrifice a little video quality. I unfortunately could not find the subtitles I needed to be used with TitleLab. But Thank you both for you're help!

I use MacTheRipper to make a backup of the DVD, and then DVD2oneX to scale the media down do whatever size you want. This program will allow you to select the audio tracks and subtitle tracks you want to inlcude, the rest is discarded, plus you can give in the desired size of the modia (4,4GB for example). Works like a charm ! And has excellent video and audio quality !!
