An unfortunate PC friend of mine recently converted a couple of VHS tapes for me using his Plextor ConvertX box, which hardware encodes directly to DivX format.
I received the files and they do not play in Quicktime. The box with some crap in it pops up saying, "QT is missing the necessary components/compressor to play this file blah, blah , blah." I have the 3ivx codec and I have the Divx codec. I have no problem watching any other downloaded Divx movies in quicktime.
Even though the Plextor box is supposed to be officially Divx certified, whatever the heck that means, it must use some non-standard audio format I'm thinking, because quicktime doesn't recognize it at all.
The Plextor PX-M402U is a certified DivX video encoder. This means that DivX Networks has tested the product and guarantees it meets their quality standards with regards to video quality and interoperability with DivX devices.
This is the info quicktime gives about the movie.
Format 3ivx D4 4.5.1, 640 x 480, Unknown MPEG, 2 channels, 48000 Hz, Stereo, 48000 Hz
Obviously the problem is the Unknown MPEG, which I'm assuming has to with the audio.
I've tried just about every codec there is for quicktime, and no luck, so I'm just trying to figure out how to open this movie which was created on a "Officially certified Divx machine".
Even pc movies that are in Divx format downloaded from the net open fine in Quicktime, It would be nice to find out what the plextor unit is doing differently.
I can play the file in VLC, Mplayer, but not quicktime.
