i've got a 10 second motion clip that i'm trying to import into imovie for a quick and dirty church project. the raw clip is in lossless qt format, and looks great in qt playback. upon import into imovie, quality really takes a hit, to the point o fbeing unacceptible. its my understanding that imovie dumbs down the screen playback quality to improve performance, so i went ahead and exported it as full qualty dv anyway, and still find that the quality of that clip is very poor. What's going on here? How to retain the quality of the original export?

Well the first thing to look at is the fact that the iMovie import is converting the video to a DV25 stream. First thing I would do is to try and export a quicktime DV file straight from Quicktime to compare and see what the compression does to the clip. Work on different settings from the export on the DV codec.

Are you looking at this on a TV monitor?

I've always found that Quicktime DV25 looks crap on a computer. If you hook up a TV to the DV camera or deck you'll better see what iMovie is outputting.
