I was wondering, what lcd monitors you people are using with your macs. Given the prices of the apple monitors, I was looking for a cheaper way to go. do all the lcd monitor manufacturers use the same connectors as apple video cards? I will be using a radeon 9200 pci card. just wondering.....

I am using a Samsung 172X that I got when my eyes (and my desk ) just couldn't handle a big CRT any more. Most good panels have DVI input, which the 9200 will have. DVI is preferable to VGA, as you will get noticeably sharper text.

I just put in a new G5 and bought a 19" NEC LCD with DVI for around $450 to go with it. It took a fair amount of recalibration using the "expert" part of the Monitors CP to get it right, but since then I've been totally happy with it.

I also got the Samsung 172X to go with my 12" Powerbook after reading this article. It reviews a bunch of other mid-sized monitors. As noted above, DVI does make a difference, at least for me. So far, this Samsung has been great, and I like the sleek lines and small footprints. I've heard but can't confirm that Samsung actually makes some of Apple monitors.
