i would like to get a minidv camera for use with ichat, but i know that most models have an auto-shutdown feature if the camera isn't used for 5-10 minutes or so. i don't want to have to fiddle with it every few minutes. i'd like to use it with other software as well, so its important that it can be used for an extended period of time, without auto-shutting-down.
does anybody use a minidv camera for this purpose? i read that sometimes you can just not put a tape into the tape loader and then this auto-shutdown feature doesn't occur. if this is an unavoidable issue i might have to just get a firewire webcam. i like the versatility of the minidv camera, though. i'd like a cheap little sony model to be able to use the nightshot if i wanted, too (you know, in case paris hilton visits...).
