My question is this, if you're importing digital video from your camcorder to your mac via firewire, can't you speed the transfer up? My camcorder imports video at the regular playback rate. This would make sense if it were an analog to digital conversion, but digital to digital should be able to use the full capacity of the firewire bus, to my knowledge..
If anyone has any information regarding this, please let me know..
ps.. I did use the search button
thanks

There is no way to do this. It's a technical limitation of the playback mechanism. Of all the video format out there (Betacam, DVCpro, HDcam, etc.) only one format allows you to do this. It's Sony's IMX decks. They record in MPEG and even have a network connector that allows you to do transfers at twice the speed.

Panasonic has a DVCPro 25 deck that will let you do 4x transfer on standrad Firewire connections also. Believe it has to be DVCPro though
