Does anybody know whether it is risky to do work in other applications while importing tunes or video or burning video via Toast? Typically I try to leave the machine alone to avoid errors in the import or burn but I am wondering if I am just being paranoid. Any experience out there?

Mine is a iMac FP 800G4

I won't use apps with huge requiremnts while burning. But I surf the web, or write text. I never open more than one application while burning. I never had problems so far.

Another time when having enough ram helps.

I burn DVDs all the time while my cpu is under heavy load (my ram probably isn't since I have more than I need, and my hard drive probably is under light load most of that time). What I do make sure to do, though, is verify each disc. I haven't had one fail verification yet, but you don't want to find out months later that something important was the first one to fail.

Yeah, I normally have 8-10 apps open when I'm burning or ripping and don't have any problems. The only burning/ripping problems I've had were from bad media (cheapo DVD-Rs or scratched CDs).

if ur worried about it, your generally likely to have more problems burning than ripping. iTunes has some ability to fix bad rips, in fact I've used iTunes to rip really bad cds, scratched or otherwise corrupted, and reburnt them perfectly which is pretty cool.

I burn, rip, scan, iTunes, Safari, Mail, PhotoShop, etc., etc., etc. OS X on a fairly new Mac just works. No problems here.
