hi all! i am unsure if this post belongs w/in this forum or the Powermac forum, so apologies in advance if this needs to be moved... ok, heres the deal:
i am getting a rev. A single processor 1.6GHz Powermac this week, and am really wanting to put a Canopus ACEDVio capture board into the machine once it arrives... specs and information for this device can be found
here.
this card is a regular PCI device, not PCI-X, so only the lowest of the G5 Powermac offerings will accomodate the board physically... when i spoke w/ Canopus earlier this last week they only state that the board supplies 'OHCI capture capabilities' w/ Macs that sport PCI slots, but that it will not work in G5's since they only have PCI-X slots... when i informed him that a few of the G5 towers actually have regular PCI slots, he was clueless. he couldn't confirm or deny whether the board would work in the 1.6GHz Powermac for me, nor could their tech department...
while i have extensive NLE/video experience over on the Irix and Wintel side, i am new to the arena when it comes to Macs/OSX... if anyone could clarify whether this should work or not i'd greatly appreciate it, or even point me towards other appropriate solutions in terms of hardware and/or software, that would be great. my needs are fairly light, i need DV input (firewire) as well as analog capture via S-Video and composite... i do not need high-end manipulation features, nor heavy effects or compositing functionality, near all of my workload w/ the captured video is to simply do light cleaning, watermarking, and breaking it into segments to encode for web/intranet distribution...
any tips or pointers would be great, thx to all who can help..!
