Although I am a big user (notice the term user, not fan or supporter) of ProTools, and own a few of their systems and work on HD systems everyday at my job, I would really recommended trying to go with logic. Logic is a far more user friendly program as theyre not so exclusive with their products. That being said, I love my mbox.
The computer you are talking about getting is exactly the same as I use at work, and mine works amazing. The main difference is that I'm using an HD Accel system, so there is no host based processing going on, but it is still a smoking computer. When I do process off the G5's processors, it does great. The only thing I see wrong with your setup is that you will need a dedicated audio drive. A firewire or USB 2.0 drive will work perfectly for your needs.

I'm finally making the switch from PC to Mac, and Im really confused on what to buy. Here's what I had in mind.
Power Mac G5
Dual 1.8 Processor
1G RAM
80G HD
I have the M-Audio Mobile Pre for my USB pre amp
However, I was thinking about just buying the MBOX.
Any suggestions? I am really lost.
Projects in mind: simple recording, nothing too extreme:
Acoustic pop songs with some synths etc...1 track recording at a time.
Thanks!
Jason.
