Can't use .Avi file in FCP or Play it in QuickTime Pro
Was wondering if there was anyone that would know of a way to play an .Avi file within QuickTime Pro which I have all the way up to 6.6 I have all the codec’s even Divx and Divx Doctor 2. Yet I am still unable to play back the video file in QuickTime.
Am I missing something that I did not download as I want to import this .Avi file into FCP and I get the red line and I am unable top view it as well as even render it.
All comments and help are welcomed.

From what I understand Apple does not support all .avi's and has no plans to unless QT 7 due in April will change that...I hope

Yes I have VLC and other players that I am able to play other types of videos at this time however I do not have any that are able to convert them.

You have both Divx and 3ivx installed, and you can't play the file?
When you play it in VLC, get info while it's playing and tell us what format the audio and video are in.

For the most part if an avi file plays in VLC but won't even open to give you a codec error in QT, it's named wrong and not really an avi.
Also of interest, VLC can convert files as well, if you choose Open from the file menu (cmd-shf-o) and click "Advanced output"
