I want to record our church services to an audio CD. I believe I understand what I need but I wanted to see if I was missing something before spending the money.

Hardward:
I am going to use Griffin Technology iMic($40) to connect an iBook to an aux port on our sound board.

Software:
I will use Ambrosia WireTap Pro($19) to record the sound and iTunes(free) to burn a CD of the sound file. WireTap claims to be able to place recorded sounds directly into iTunes.

Concerns:
Would Garageband(iLife'05 $79) be better than WireTap? My iBook is a 900 G3 and did not come with Garageband.
Would iTunes limit me on the number of CD I can make of my own recordings?

I'd do some practice sessions first to check your levels (before doing a live recording of a church service), but it sounds like you've got an okay setup there.

In answer to your question, you can burn as many copies as you want. It's only when you purchase iTunes music from the iTunes store that you have a limitation on burning CDs.

Peak LE is a great audio recording program, in case you hit the limits with Wiretap. It's around 70 dollars. It'll run on any machine made in that last 4 or 5 years.

For your purposes, Garageband is only good for multi-track recording. There's no need to record multi-track sermons, though.

I would skip wire tap for now (although I use it all the time to record streaming audio) and go straight to felt tip's Sound Studio. It's about $40 I think and allows for editing of your recorded file. It's straightforward and easy to use. You have to drag your files into iTunes to be able to burn a CD, but that's a small inconvienence to be able to edit what you have recorded.
