Hey all,

I've been shooting a public access show in NYC for a couple of years. It airs in Manhattan only, bi-weekly.

Quite a few people have expressed interest in checking it out but can't always catch it. Since I do web design, I figure the answer would be to offer the show online.

Each episode is 28 minutes. What would be the best way to offer the show? My concerns are download time primarily, but file size on the server end would be an issue too.

I'm planning on experimenting with different Quicktime compressions but if anyone has any good detailed solutions, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

H.264 with Quicktime 7 should provide a very good solution. The only (admittedly significant) problem is that the Windows version has not yet been announced.

To speed download time, try distributing the file via Bittorrent.

I'll have to explore the QT7 option once it's released. Right now all I see are previews for it in association with Tiger's release.

Creating torrents of the show is an interesting concept. How could I ensure that the videos would always be available though? Short of keeping Azureus open on my machine indefinitely with those files shared?

The same way you make sure a website is available all the time: have a dedicated server uploading the files.

…!
have a look at the latest version of mpeg2streamclip v.1.3
here:
http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html

it offers a very good, very fast 2step mpeg4 conversion, which results in small files even with a big pic, and good quality…
