All right, I am an anime fan, and I downloaded a 700MB anime movie in AVI format. The video plays perfect in VLC.

I want to put it on a DVD to watch in your standard DVD player using my powerbook 15' 1.5ghz w/ superdrive. All I want is a menu that says 'play' so it will play in any DVD player.

So I open up iDVD, and try to import my file, only to get a AVI unsuported filetype error. I am figuring that I need to convert this AVI file to MPEG-4 or something, right? Well I searched the net far and wide for a osx AVI-MPEG converter and found squat.

No program fit the bill. The programs im sure would do it are expensive, I dont have hundreds of dollars for pro-dvd software and whatnot. I alreadyspent 2300 on this powerbook, now I just wanna have it burn a DVD that can play my movie. I tried Divx Doctor II, and for whatever reason it keeps spewing errors...

Can someone help me? Is there a specific program I need? Is there any way to get this to work? Or am I too niave to think that making a simple DVD would be easy?

thanks everyone for your help.

FFMPEGX will make a Video_TS folder that you can burn to DVD. $15 shareware. Though keep in mind that anything .avi based can be buggy and non-standard. Even if VLC is able to make it play, that doesn't mean the file is any good.
