Hi. I recently made a movie as a surprise birthday present for my girlfriend. I pulled lots of small clips (from a handheld digital camera's video function - so not the most amazing quality!) into iMovie, edited them with lots of effects and slow-mos etc and finished the movie. I then pulled it into iDVD and made a menu and scene selection screens and burnt it to a 4.7GB DVD-R disc. The movie was about 9.5 minutes long and 4.3GB in total.
I burnt five copies. With each one, when I play it back on my DVD player, it sticks in one place. This might be 15 seconds into it on one disc, halfway through on another, or towards the end on another disc. When I play it through a Playstation 2 it jumps a little instead of freezing, and will play through on DVD playback on a computer.

Why is it sticking on my DVD player? Can anyone help?

I have an Apple Powerbook G4, Mac OS 10.3.9.

This may not have anything to do with your problem, but what brand DVD-Rs are you using? I have had this problem exhibited whenever I use anything but SONY DVDs. If you're not using SONY, give them a try and see if the problem goes away.

What version of iDVD are you using? Do you have access to Final Cut Pro, Compressor, or DVD Studio Pro? Can you give more information about your computer (specifically the speed of your SuperDrive, if possible) and DVD media (including speed)?

In addition to the brand of media, there are a few things that could be causing you problems, from my experience: 1)iDVD, especially older versions, makes some glitchy DVDs sometimes. 2)Video shot on a digital still cam (usu. MPEG-4 format, IIRC) can give crappy, glitchy results in iMovie (which is designed for DV format).

If it's a 9.5 minute movie, your DVD shouldn't be 4.3GB either, which leads me to believe something screwy's going on.
Plato--what's a "Chickie Run"?

Thanks for the replies. My Powerbook has 512MB DDR333 (256MB built-in + 256MB SO-DIMM); 80GB Ultra ATA drive (5400rpm); and a 8x SuperDrive (DVD R/CD-RW).

I think it might be so big because there must be about 30 different clips, some slowed-down, some speeded-up. They have all been converted to b/w from colour, and there are loads of flshes between edits. Plus there are two full iTunes tracks as the soundtrack.

I am using Apple's own DVD-R discs that I bought from the Apple store in London. I'd have to look at what version of iDVD I've got, but I've had the computer about 7-9 months.

Thanks for your help so far guys.
