I know if I place a .inf file on the CD, I can get Windows to play a video automatically. Is there a way to get a Mac to autoplay a file? If so, can I then add the .inf file to the CD later and create a hybrid so it autoloads in Windows as well?

Hi fob,

MacOsX is very… "shy" with autostarting anything, I think that is for your own safety… mp4 is just "data", meaning, you want your Mac to open a file "from the mean outside world" automatically… no, don't think so…

Different with video-cd/dvd: a designated "video only" disc can start by itself, iDVD and DVSP offers such possibilties. but video-cds/dvds cannot contain mp4, you have to convert your file…

AFAIK, Toast lets you burn "windows" cds, but I have absolutley no clue, how to generate .inf files…

The .inf files are just text files and can only point to applications (ie executables). You can search the internet to find the syntax. However you should know that as of SP2, Windows XP no longer supports autostart, and Autostart has been taboo in the Mac world since the Quicktime autostart worm got spread around pretty heavily.

In other words, any kind of autostart is sktechy at best and really a lost cause. Even the video style autostarting k_munic spoke of is a property of the player, not the disc itself.

That all being said, yes you can burn an .inf to the root of a hybrid disc, but no it won't work pointing to a MP4.
