If I have a PowerBook G4 as my main computer and a PowerMac G5 that I'm using as a server, is there any way that I can edit video on the PowerBook but somehow leverage the G5 for doing my rendering and encoding?

Encoding yes, you can encode for compressor with a Qmaster Node (Included with FCS) and add as many machines as you like. We have 6 Dual 1.8's for Compressor encoding, was very easy to setup to a 8 port Gig-E Box and an X-RAID.

I don't know of a way to do rendering of your Final Cut Timeline or anything like that, I imagine it might be possible, ill ask around if that is what you are looking for.

That would be great, thanks.

I'm trying to determine if it would be feasible for me to switch to a PowerBook as my main work computer, as it's a huge pain in the ass to have to move to my Thinkpad when I travel (and I travel a good amount as part of my job is to support 7 different offices, soon to be 9, in 4 different countries). My current PowerMac would be well suited to become a server if I could still take advantage of it's processor power for editing, which is another important part of my job.
