If you open the various DVD files (I can't remember which one - the largest - the file name you posted sounds familiar), you can get QT to open it if you use: file menu>open file. It won't have sound though.
I used Mac the Ripper:
http://www.ripdifferent.com/~mtr/
to grab the audio. MTR will also get video - but I was able to get the video via QT so didn't use the MTR video track.
I used FCP to put the AIFF file outputted by MTR and the video track back together and then outputted as a self contained mov from there. I encoded using Sorenson 3 and AAC. AAC needs QT 6.3 mac and 6.5.2 pc (I think) to run.
I couldn't get fast start (the movie doesn't have to be all loaded for it to start playing) to work and found this app that makes it work
http://www.qtbridge.com/lillipot/lillipot.html
I'm not sure if my method is the best but it works - you may be able to merge audio and video in QT but I was up against it and knew I could do it in FCP. If you can find a way to extract the audio and video together that would be cool.

(Reason:added the bit about MTR getting video))

AFAIK, MacTheRipper doesn't extract audio in AIFF, only in the format it was on on the DVD. And Quicktime will only open the VOB if you have the MPEG-2 component installed.
You can also try ffmpegX to encode to MPEG-4. ffmpegX will encode from most formats, including VOB/MPEG.

ffmpegX sounds good - I would start there.
MTR - if you click 'mode', click 'd', you can then access the individual streams from the DVD.

yes, not meant to be easy. but if you have the VOB decrypted and you only want part of it, MPEG StreamClip will be the easiest (my 3rd link). I figured too much info is better than too little, so I put those other 2 first. The result will be the same, but if you end up having to do it again, I bet MPEG StreamClip will end up being less work and less waiting around. Oh, but it requires the Apple MPEG-2 decoder which is $20.
