Trouble Importing Video

im trying to import video from my gl2 into final cut express hd, and then when that didn twork i tried imovie hd, and it keeps skipping and not importing.

the tape is in tact, because it plays just fine on the camera screen, just doesnt do so hott on the computer...

i do alot of traveling, could it be that my firewire cable became freyed?
