i have a lot of avi files that i've downloaded and want to burn to dvd but can find no easy or efficient way of doing so. i've tried toast 6.11 and it spends literally 18 hours "encoding" the file only to give an error message saying that there wasn't enough memory...but i have 40GB of free HD space and 768mb of ram on my powerbook g4 so i know that can't be the case. does anyone know of a free or inexpensive way to convert avi files to mpg files so that i can burn them to dvd through toast? thanks!

you can get quicktime's mpeg-2 component. you can download ffmpegx. either will encode mpeg2, then you won't have to have toast encoding, but either way it can still take a long time to convert these.

I've found as long as my AVI file is no larger than say 1gb I can use iDVD. Just open iDVD drag and drop the avi file in or import, make your menu then click burn and let iDVD work it's wonder.
The most i've tried is 2 TV episodes totalling 700Mb.....hey just try it, it can't hurt.
if you can't be part of the solution don't be part of the problem!!!!
