Airport Express and cordless phone?

I bought my first Mac (iBook G4) and an Airport Express almost a year ago. The AE worked great for the first six months or so. I used it for Airtunes exclusively... then it started crapping out on me. It would cut out for 5-10 seconds after playing 30 seconds of a song.

It got to the point where I quit using it. It became the cute little green behing the stereo in the living room. The wife and I went on vacation for a week and when we returned, the cute green light was no longer.

I took the AE to the local Apple store and picked up my refurbished today. I plugged it into the wall and to the stereo, set it up and started streaming music again. Great!!!

I decided to try a little "test". I played music via Airtunes for an hour or so - no skips. I picked up the cordless phone and called my cell phone. The music stopped. I hung up the cordless. Music started. I let it play for a minute or so and repeated my test. Same results.

I called my cell phone the third time, hung up and now the AE is doing the same thing again. It stops streaming for 5-10 second increments.

Any ideas out there????

All the Apple wireless stuff runs on 2.4 Ghz, which is the same band as most cordless phones. You can temporarily get around it by changing the channel on your phone but it's basically a flip of a coin as to when it might again become a problem. Long term you'll probably want to get a 5GHz cordless phone (or 900, but that's pretty crowded too).

PS This probably would have gotten more hits in the networking forum.

900 is great because its got a longest distance. the waves are longer vs sharp like a mountain.
