Say I was to use something like this to get mov files onto my drive. How would I go about making these into a MPEG format that could be used by a stand alone DVD player if I were to burn them to a video CD?

I have had a really hard time trying to figure out why some MPEGs are readable by DVD players and why some are not. I am confused as to which codec is used in various files and how to differentiate between ones that can be used for this purpose and which can not be.

How do you know what codec is used in individual video files if you were not the person to encode it?
And how do you convert other video formats (MOV, AVI, etc) into the kind of MPEG i want?

The simplest method would be to buy the new version of Toast 7. It claims to convert between all kinds of formats. sam

mpeg2 is the standaard codec used for DVD-video

(Note: QT Pro does not encode to MPEG-2.)

You can have a look at ffmpegX, which is shareware, so you can try it before you spend money on it. If that seems too complicated, do as SVass said and get Toast 7, that will convert and burn for you.

Then I guess you also have DVDSP installed.

But feel free to point out MPEG-2 exporting from the tech specs list if you find it.

can't you import the .mov file into iMovie en then export it to DVD ?
The only way to accelerate a windowsmachine is at 9.8 m/s......

First thing I tried, it gave me an error code when I went to import.

I'm totally new at this but just downloaded a bunch of Windows Media Files that I'd love to play on my DVD player, not on the computer. Is there a way to convert them?

Thanks in advance.

Before I sink more money into QT Pro or Toast 7 I did some checking.
The new toast did not list mpeg2 as one of the formats it converted to. The web site listed- DV, DV16:9, HDV720p, HDV1080i, Quicktime MOV, MPEG4, H.264, 3G, DivX, PSP, iTunes, and OGG.

Now if the new toast doesn't list outright mpeg2 does it mean I should wait until someone else experiments with it here on the forum?
It sounds like some of you had problems converting in QT Pro to mpeg2 so I would like to figure out that process as well before I try that alternative.

This project is just for my own use so spendling as little $$$$ on it is crucial.
