Hi, i recently filmed a lot of footage for a dvd that is going to be sold later this year. I was filming the footage in 16:9 widescreen mode, however when i import it onto my imac it is not in widescreen mode. I have looked around in the menus ect but cannot find anything that will help. I have quite a old imac g3 running os9, is there anyway i can edit this footage in 16:9 mode?
thanks

Is the picture distorted once imported to iMovie? Are you using iMovieHD?

If the picture looks "squished" tall and thin, then you have the entire WS picture, just displayed in a 4:3 frame. You can go ahead and edit it like this, and then when you have it all finished, burn it to a disk image instead of a Disk. Then you can take MyDVDEdit ( a freeware downlaod) and use it to re-set the aspect ratio flag in the IFO file, If you then burn this editied file to a DVD, it will play back as normal widescreen. - - letterboxed on 4:3 monitors and full screen on 16:9 ones.

Hi, yes the picture is distorted. im pretty sure its just squashing the 16:9 into 4:3. Hey Spoffo what i plan on doing to putting the vid it back onto the camera via the firewire. It just seems that imovie doesnt support 16:9, as when i just have the camera turnt on when its connected to the imac it still doesnt show it in widescreen mode on the mac even tho it is in 16:9 on the camera. I really want to start editing this footage will i actualy have to get a new imac to edit in 16:9 LOL!!??

On OS9 using iMovie 2 your only option is something like this: http://www.virtix.com/imovie/products/Virtix16x9.asp
Which will letterbox your widescreen footage to suit 4:3. I doubt iMovie2 understands 16:9 footage. You could try exporting back to camera and then playing from the camera to a widescreen tv to see if iMovie flags it correctly, but my guess is that it won't work.
