I am putting together an academic website that offers online flash-based lectures along with audio. I am trying to get an idea how big about an hour of recorded voice would be in the mp3 format? I would imagine that it depends partly on the software used to do the encoding, but can someone give me some ball park estimates? The quality does not have to be anything special: just enough for someone to understand the speaker's voice.

Thanks.

To get the best results, you should really use a speech codec instead of mp3. If you have QT Pro there are quite a few to choose from if you export to mov. Anyways, an hour of speech @ 32kbps should be about 14MB. You might want to double that bitrate if you use mp3.
