I have an "AlchemyTV DVR" card in my G4 450 running 10.3.9. I can capture video off of cabletv. I'd like to be able to watch the saved movie files on an iBook. Both machines are connected via wireless to a netgear router. (the ibook via 802.11g and the tower via 802.11b if it matters). It would be nice if you didn't have to wait for the gig+ size file to transfer before viewing.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

Why don't you just play the file directly from the G4 450? There's no need to transfer the file to your iBook first.

Also, check out VLC.

I didn't know vlc did streaming! I already had that!

Unfortunatly the 450 G4 via 802.11b is too slow. (Probably why it wont play directly either)

Works great between the powerbook and iBook via 802.11g. However the tv capture card is in the G4 tower.

Thanks for the response though!

Try networking the iBook directly to the G4 via Wi-Fi, thereby taking the router out of the loop.

Is your NetGear router operating at 802.11b or 802.11g speeds?

The router shouldn't be a bottleneck then. I've been able to stream DVD (about 6 Mbps) using 802.11b.

Ya, I'm pretty sure the problem is the speed of the 450 g4 itself.

Streaming from the powerbook to the ibook works great. (Via the netgear)

Oh well.

Thanks for your help!
