Ok, about a year ago I purchased a Sony DCR-HC 20E DV from an authorized Sony retailer in Beijing, China. At the time I had an Ibook G3, and using I-Link/Firewire the camera worked really well with the computer. I then purchased a Powerbook G4 and have not been able get the computer to read the DV since. I have tried everything from buying a new firewire cable to spending hours on the phone with Apple and Sony (the people I spoke to at Sony were about as unhelpful as I've experieced.) So now I have this Sony DV and can't use it on my computer. I'm wondering what the problem could be. My friend from London has the same Powerbook, but she bought her's in the London (i bought mine in Portland, OR) and the camcorder works on hers? Apple Claims that there are no differences between UK and US Powerbook models. I did find out from Sony the (e) in the model number HC 20E, means that the camcorder is the European model. I know this is a mess of information, it's all I've been able to get. If anyone has any ideas as to a way of using this camera on my Powerbook please let me know.
Thanks,
Ian

P.S. I've done every basic test i've been told to do by apple... testing my powerbook's firewire, making sure the camcorder is set to dv out, etc.

Do the Firewire ports on the camera and the laptop work with other devices?
