Someone get me started on the right track here. I have an external DVD burner with an appropriate driver and I'm running Tiger. I have tried burning my DVDs from iDVD projects, and some of them work just fine, but others die in the middle of the movie. How do I begin to troubleshoot/refine my process so that it works every time or close to every time?

For what it's worth...I have a terrible time getting any yield with anything but SONY DVDs. I have tried other makes, but they either don't play in my commercial DVD player, or play for a while and then freeze. I don't have this problem when I use SONY media.

(I do not work for SONY or have any vested interest in the company. )

Hmm. Mine are Maxell's. :-(

It would be nice if when these programs are going to screw up your DVD, if they could let you know first so you don't waste your time. "I'm sorry, but I can't do that competently. Why don't you forget it?"

I'm a verbatim guy myself.

I think first thing to try here is to use a higher quality type of Media (ie NOT Memorex.) If, after that, you consistently burn more successful DVDs, you'll know that that was the issue. If you're using a top notch brand and you're still getting a lot of coasters, then it's something else.

Another thing to try with your current brand is to burn at 1x or 2x speeds instead of your maximum speed and see if that reduces the fail rate.
