Hi all.
If you do some editing/DVD what do you use as a Playback to monitor/TV?
Video out from Graphic card or do you use a FW device?
Noone doing Editing here?

You can use a standard TV as a video monitor. I have a Firewire DV converter. I can put the Firewire cable into the 'in' port of the DV converter, and then some composite AV cables from the corresponding 'out' ports to the TV. Since I'm short of space, I usually put the composite cables into a VCR instead, and then take the VHS tape to a bigger TV.
In Final Cut, you need to go to View > Video Out > and then select your output device before this works.
Hope that helps. I can elaborate further if you need it.

Thanks Baryon!
I know about the TV as a monitor. I have a good old SONY Trinitron for that mater. Nothing better than a real TV for me to -see- what has to be seen.
What is your DV converter? A camcodrer?
I am sharing a Sony DSR-11 with another guy, but only "sharing" so I was wondering if for example a DAC-100 could do the job just fine:
http://www.videoguys.com/dac.html
or if I needed something more $..
A friend of mine is using a DAC-100 for monitoring and he is quite happy with it.
Of course, a video card with a "TV-out" would also be nice, but not as handy! ;o)
Thanks for your comment on this one!

Yes - that looks fine. I'm using a Formac Studio DV, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's been a bit quirky in the past. The Apple Store has a selection of these devices too - Canopus and Miglia brands - but you'll find a better deal elsewhere. The right DV camcorder would be an alternative.

I have had a terrible experience with the Canopus products...
Thanks for your comments.
Do you edit on your machine?
I am using an iBook G4 1GHZ + 1.25 RAM.
It is no Pro I know but it is a very long story.
Now, I am thinking investing in a Quad as there is a lot of work to do. I am just wondering how much fater it will do my encoding via Compressor...
I will make a new Thread with this one..

Yes - I do editing with FCE HD and ST Pro. What is the performance like on an iBook then? And what versions of which software do you have?
I imagine that Intel Power Macs will be released in April.

Everything on an iBook is "slow", but then again, when you play around with gigs os data...
I started editing on Mac on a Quadra 660av I believe... something pretty "slow", but then again, it did the Job! ;o)
My iBook 12" is great, the bottleneck is the CPU (also HDD but on a laptop...).
The missing horsepowers are indeed due to CPU when you do encoding.
I should fix that soon with a Quad, but this soon will take a couple of months.
I am using FCP HD + DVD SP + AfterEffects + etc.
I am dying to get my hands on this Quad (with a FAT video card) to try use Motion! :oD
