Extremely beginner question, so please forgive me .
I'm working on a project where I need to combine a few videos into one larger video. Easy enough, I thought until I received one of the videos on a minDV tape from France. Now obviously it won't play in my camera (its a NTSC, since I'm in NYC) but is there anyway that I can import the video without asking them to convert it to a digital format and send?
Your help would be appreciated as the more options I have, the better.
Thanks!

I don't find that obvious, but I'll believe you if you say it's true. Did you actually try it (over firewire)?
Obviously you'll need a device to play the tape with. If your question is what to do with it after digitizing there are a number of options. Is that what you need?

Hi shady,
that is not a beginner Q, that is hightech.. ;-)
a PAL tape can only be playback with a designated PAL-camcorder; there are some multi-norm players on the market, but that is pro-stuff = $$$$
but, hey NYNY! you should be able to find some company, which is able to "convert" that tape... onto a NTSCtape or DVD!
ok, miniDVD>>DVD>>editing is not best practise, some loss of quality, but you#re working with NTSC anyhow.... (<<that's a silly joke from PAL-country)
the video-standard of the DVD doesn't matter, you're able to convert it with free tools as "Deinterlacer", found here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html#DEI
Plan B):
I've seen many PALcamcorders in shops in NYNY - "rent" one, import tape into Mac, convert with tools mentioned above......

Page 76 of the march macworld has some potentially useful info on this. If you pass buy a place that sells them it's worth a minute to read just that article.
