Copying DVDs

I'm looking to make back-up copies of my DVDs so that I don't have to worry about taking them to college. I've just tried to use Roxio Toast 7 Titanium but it wont copy copy protected discs. Thw question is: Which program should I use (I'm looking for an equivalent to Nero for PCs)? I'm relatively new to Macs so I'm sorry for asking stupid questions in advance.

Uh, create a DVD Video and drop the VIDEO_TS folder in.

You could have used the included Disk Utility application. It's in /Applications/Utilities. Just click on the entry for the DVD on the left-hand side. Then go to File > New > Disk Image From ...
It makes a Disk Image, which then appears in the list. Eject the source disc and put in a blank disc. Click on the entry for the dmg file and press Burn to burn a copy.

A problem arises if you want to back up a dual-layer DVD: You either have to burn to a dual-layer DVD or compress it with something like Roxio's Popcorn.

I think Popcorn has been integrated into Toast 7, Popcorn was standalone in 6...not positive though.

Dont use MactheRipper, it doesnt do everything correctly.
Use 0sex

Rip as DVD FOLDER
Then if it's less than 4.3GB simply burn in Toast. If larger, use Popcorn, ffmpegx, DVD2One or various other "dvd shrink" apps out there.

easy
takes about 30-60 minutes to completely burn a 8.5gb disk.....(afterall compression and stuff
