Hi,

I thought I'd post this again. In the last post I ended the paragraph with a statement, not a question, and I think that's why 20 people read it but no one replied. I've done that on other forums with the same results. My question :

Some people are telling me that an Onkyo AV receiver set up with my JVC CD changer using a toslink fiber optical cable will blow away my NAD 214 amp and Adcom GTP-350 Preamp analog separates combo. Do any of you think this is possible? Hoping for some replies.

Thank you.

People who insist that digital is superior are tech geeks.

That said: It's all about the DAC in the end. And the DAC in the Onkyo receiver will probably be superior to the DAC in the JVC CD changer.
WIth analogue connections the decoding gets done by the JVC changer. With a digital link the decoding of the PCM stream gets done by the receiver. And since most CD changer units are pretty cheaply built they contain cheap and crappy DACs so it's indeed possible that the Onkyo will be superior. But if you were to upgrade to a serious CD player you'll get a whole other result. Or maybe a dedicated DAC.

Hi Goldfinger,

That makes sense to me and thank you for replying.
If I like the digital receiver better, I plan to sell my separates. It may be coincidence but someone on eBay was selling an NAD 214 amp for $200 with Buy It Now and he could not get his reserve price for it. The bidders had taken it up to $113 USD and the auction ended without selling.

Cheers,

WH
