Can anyone reccommend any (pref free) audio cleaning software? I filmed an event at my school, a rock music event, and unfortunatly we did not have time to set up an audio recording deck, so we had to rely on small external mics that attach to the top of standard mini DV camcorders. Needless to say the sound is less than impressive, and I wondered, instead of spending an age fiddling with all the EQ settings, if there is a nice app to clean up the audio to a reasonable quality.

Cheers

Look for audacity at www.macupdate.com

It may not do the best cleanup job, but it is free and can't hurt to try!

I've used it with good results if you are conservative on how much automatic cleanup you want to apply. There is a filter to reduce noise although it may affect your music if it already has a lot of distortion or heavy guitar with amp.

The best app for this purpose that I've found is Bias Soundsoap.

What you do is record the sound of the room when no real content is happening,
it builds a filter based on the background noise (air vents going) and the content
stays the noise goes.

In your case the problem is there's a problem with the original recording
so there is not much that can be done to really help.
