I can use the excellent FileStitcher MP3 program to stitch together files encoded by iTunes and other programs, as they are "MPEG-1, Layer 3" but FileStitcher does not recognize a podcast I get which is "MPEG-2, Layer 3", even though it has ".mp3" as its extension. What is this and is there an easy way to convert it to MPEG-1? I can re-encode in iTunes, but the I have to reset the encoding from my perferred AAC, and by that point I might as well just open it up in Sound Studio and edit and combine the audio that way.

Any ideas? I'm looking more for a way to rename the file as an "MPEG-1" rather than re-encoding it.

Thanks-

Val
