Question. I am planning to take the apple pro certified test for Final Cut Pro 5. I was wondering if it is really worth the money?
For you people that have passed the test, what benefits have you received?
Are there age requirements? I am only 16 and i want to take this test hoping to allow me to get into my choice of art and film school.
What is the difficulty level? I have self learned, using the Peach Pit books for level 1 certification.

I wouldn't even bother with a class like this unless you wanted to eventually teach Final Cut Pro or do tech support for Final Cut Pro. If I were applying to film school I would show what I can do with FCP based on my work not on a certificate that says I know how to push computer buttons. If you really think certification is going to get you into school then go ahead and waste your money.

Good Luck,
Mullet

Don't spend money on certification. You can do that later. What you need to do is make good grades and produce some work to show for your ability.

A FCP certification doesn't make you a good artist, just as a driver's license doesn't make you a good driver.

Well, everyone already said it. I got certified, but only because my company paid for it (I didn't ask to be certified, they just provide that). I didn't even take a class or read a book. I just know the program inside and out. I haven't gotten any phone calls from any new clients saying "I heard you were certified." It's bragging rights (if even that) and doesn't mean squat. Focus on the art of editing and technique. Certification in knowing what button to push isn't going to get anyone very far. The only people it will impress are those who aren't in the industry and pretend to be or those who don't know any better.

EDIT: Oh, and I did get a very nice Print Shop created certificate and my name in the Certified Pros page.
