I am trying to backup my DVD collection. I’ve used mactheripper to copy the video-ts file to my HD. The sizes of the files are all tremendous. I downloaded dvd2onex a while ago and the trial period is over. I am looking for a FREE alternative to dvd2oneX. I need a program that will shrink the video-ts folder I’ve found tons of video shrink application but none will accept the videots folder. I've tried using FFmpegX but it will not convert the video-ts folder unless you set it to MPEG@ {.mpg} (mpeg2enc) and that setting keeps failing on me.

What did I do wrong so please help?
Are there any other free apps to shrink a video ts folder?
Also i'm a little confused after the video-ts folder is shrunk do I need to use a program like DVD imager to make a disk image or can I just burn it?

I know you said free, but honestly the best option is Toast 7. It does everything automatically for you. Or you could just pay for DVD2oneX. These two programs do everything for you in one step.

Going to multistep methods is just a pain, and the quality isn't as good either.

no free alternatives on the Mac. On the pc, you can use dvdshrink for free. Roxio's Popcorn works well on the Mac, but it is expensive (althought not as much as dvd2onex.

Best advice-pay for Popcorn.

You could use HandBrake to convert the DVD into an mp4 file and burn that to DVD. You don't even need Mactheripper to decrypt the DVD.

except that handbrake will just convert it to a single file, which will be unable to see the menu, chapters, etc.

I'd see if you can get yourself a copy of Popcorn

Listen, I'm as cheap as they come , but I've had DVD2oneX for nearly a year, and it's never failed to work flawlessly. I've backed up my entire DVD collection and have started backing up my brother's, it just works. I know it's a lot of dough, but it's worth it.

Dvd2One (€40 about = $40) is actually cheaper than Popcorn ($50), and I reckon quicker and better...

IFOEdit on Windows is a great way to strip out extra features, languages, and close captioning without recompressing the video. I always try to work with IFOEdit first when I care about preserving quality.

In what way is DVD2One better than Popcorn/Toast7? Do you get better quality?
