OK well this is the situation. Im an editor for a Post Production house. My boss recently decided to upgrade to the G5 Quad with 4GB ram, Quadro 4500 card, 1 30" Apple Cinema Display and one 23" Apple cinema Display. With the Blackmagic Express Breakout box. COOL ha!
OK I know its a monster! But what i really want to know is should me Boss wait for the intel chips to come out 1st.
As my noob mind understands the Quad G5 isnt actually running on intels duo core right?
And if this is true will the Quad G5 take full advantage of FCP 5.1?
And is there any proper benchmark test i can refer to?
and what are the cons of this machine?
Thank You

There are no cons on the G5, most pro apps are universal or PPC based, it is better to run it off PPC for the next few years cause manufacturers of software need to recomplie their code to make it run universally.

So what you are saying is that i should rather go for FCP 5 then FCP 5.1 which has been written in UB?

Uh, 5.1 is only going to be better than 5. Why would they remove optimizations that are already done?
<edit> Also, where the heck did my post (the one RajivRai is talking about) go? </edit>
<edit2> I see, he was on the wrong forum at first </edit2>

What he is saying is that you can run either FCP 5 or 5.1 without any performance problems on the Quad G5 PowerMac.
G5Man is basically saying that you can't go wrong with a PowerPC Mac since all existing Mac software is available in PowerPC code or Universal Binary code which will both run without a performance hit onn PowerPC based Macs. With an Intel Based Mac you will take a performance hit if you have to run an app that has not been converted to Universal Binary, like for example Photoshop.
